Our Mission

The mission of the Hope House is to provide HOPE to the community by providing mentoring and empowerment to our clients to lead a more stable and productive life.

Vision

The vision of the Hope House is that every individual and family experiencing homelessness will have the opportunity to heal; learn and grow; and build a foundation to be equipped to be self-sufficient.

Our History

A member of the Welfare Department, Interlocal Community Action Program, local area pastors, a member of the Board of Realtors, and other concerned citizens came together to form a committee to open Hancock County’s first homeless shelter. The Hope House began with little to no available resources, but a desire to help and house a number of people in the area who were facing homelessness. Individuals showing no permanent address, doubling up in their living situations, sleeping in their cars, or living on the street were just a few reasons that led to the creation of the Hope House.

In October 1991, located in two older homes provided by Thomas EQ Williams, the Hope House was established. In 1997, with a growing need and a federally funded grant, an old factory located at 35 E. Pierson Street in Greenfield was purchased. With many hours of dedicated volunteer labor, it was renovated into our current facility. Hope House has the capacity to serve up to 35 men, women and children.
