Homeless Program

Who qualifies for your homeless program?
We have a set of admission criteria that we review with any potential client that calls us for services. Two of the most important criteria that we have for our program is that a client(s) need to be a resident of Hancock, Henry, Rush and Shelby counties and have the ability to go out and get a job.
What if I am not a resident of one of those counties?
The United Way of Central Indiana provide a great resource help line called Connect-To-Help. Individuals or families can call the phone number “211” and will be connected to a knowledgeable person that can assist them in finding the resources they need.
Is there any cost to coming to the Hope House?
We do not charge any fee to any of our clients. Our clients do help us with chores and other duties around the shelter. In addition, there are other guidelines that are required to be met during their entire stay with us. All of these guidelines are reviewed thoroughly at admission with each client.
Is there a homeless issue in our community?
The face of homelessness looks different in our community that it does in the big cities. The Hope House provides over 4,000 nights of shelter to men, women and children in our community who find themselves without a roof over their head. The need is real and we are blessed that the community allows us to meet the needs of these valued community members.
Do you provide emergency shelter needs?
• We are not an overnight shelter but rather run a homeless “program” that becomes transformational in the lives of those we serve. Each individual and family that comes to us commit to a plan of action that will return them to a stable housing situation.
What is the biggest challenge that you face with your homeless program?
Financial funding of our program continues to be our biggest challenge but is the one that we face with much energy and optimism. We enjoy tremendous support from our community and know that if we build the right relationships with our community members and continue to be effective in our mission of serving the homeless, we will be successful.

WEARhouse Thrift Store

What role does the WEARhouse Thrift Store play in your program?
The thrift store provides critical funding to our homeless program. Government grants for homeless shelters have decreased so we are reliant upon community support to meet our mission of serving the homeless. The thrift store allows community members to support our program through the donation of clothes, shoes, household goods, furniture and other items that we then resell in our store. The store is open Monday-Friday from 11am to 7pm and Saturdays from 9am to 4pm
